Responsible Gambling
Betting should be entertainment, not a way to make money or escape financial or personal problems. If it stops feeling like entertainment, it's time to step back.
Signs to watch for
- Betting more than you planned to, or chasing losses
- Hiding your betting activity from family or friends
- Betting money meant for essentials like rent, bills, or food
- Feeling anxious, irritable, or low when you try to stop
Tools that can help
Most licensed bookmakers offer deposit limits, loss limits, time-outs, and self-exclusion tools directly in your account settings — these are worth setting up before you need them, not after.
Support organisations
- UK — GamCare: gamcare.org.uk, National Gambling Helpline: 0808 8020 133
- Europe (general) — check your national gambling regulator's site for local helplines; most EU countries operate one (e.g. Gambling Therapy: gamblingtherapy.org, available across Europe)
- Africa (general) — support infrastructure varies by country; where a national helpline exists (e.g. South Africa's National Responsible Gambling Programme: 0800 006 008), it's the best first stop. Gambling Therapy also operates internationally online.
This list is a starting point, not exhaustive. Verify current helpline numbers and add locally-relevant organisations for every country you actively target.
